Because it contains carbidopa and levodopa, Sinemet® can be an effective medication for treating Parkinson's disease. This prescription medication is also approved for treating parkinsonism associated with encephalitis, manganese poisoning, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Before taking Sinemet, talk to your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have and any medications you are taking. Although most people tolerate the drug well at first, it is common for more bothersome and serious side effects to occur over time.
