Sinemet CR Drug Interactions (Cont.)

Sinemet CR Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Sinemet CR is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Antipsychotic Medications
Antipsychotic medications can make Sinemet CR less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before combining Sinemet with an antipsychotic medication.

High Blood Pressure Medications
Taking Sinemet CR and a blood pressure medication together can increase the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). Check with your healthcare provider, as your blood pressure may need to be monitored more closely, and you may need a lower dose of your blood pressure medicine.

Iron
Iron can decrease the absorption of Sinemet CR into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Iron products should be taken at least two hours before or after any Sinemet CR doses.

Isoniazid
Isoniazid can make Sinemet CR less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Metoclopramide (Reglan)
Metoclopramide can make Sinemet CR less effective. However, metoclopramide may also increase the absorption of Sinemet CR into the body (which could make it more effective or increase the risk of Sinemet CR side effects). It is difficult to predict what exactly may happen if these medications are combined. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Nonselective MAOIs (isocarboxazid, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine) should not be combined with Sinemet CR or used within two weeks of using Sinemet CR. Selective MAOI-B inhibitors (selegiline and rasagiline) can be used with Sinemet CR, although the risk of low blood pressure may be increased.
