Drug Interactions for Ropinirole

Because certain drug interactions for ropinirole may cause unintended results or cause your body to metabolize the drug differently, your physician will consider all your medications before prescribing ropinirole. Some of the most common drug interactions include dopamine antagonists, estrogens, and ciprofloxacin. Certain drug interactions with ropinirole may require close monitoring by a healthcare professional to avoid complications.

 

Drug Interactions for Ropinirole: An Introduction

Ropinirole hydrochloride, also known by its brand name Requip®, potentially has a number of other medicines that it can interact with. Some of these drug interactions for ropinirole include:
 
  • Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®, Cipro XR®)
  • Estrogens
  • Dopamine antagonists, including neuroleptics (phenothiazines, butyrophenones, thioxanthenes) and metoclopramide.
 
Ciprofloxacin
Taking both ciprofloxacin and ropinirole may alter the way in which your body breaks down and gets rid of these medications. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely if this is the case.
 
Estrogens
Taking both estrogen and ropinirole may alter the way in which your body is meant to metabolize these medications. If you stop or start estrogen therapy while taking ropinirole, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.
 
Dopamine Antagonists
Because ropinirole is a dopamine agonist, taking a dopamine antagonist and ropinirole may alter the way in which your body breaks down and gets rid of these medications. Before recommending ropinirole and a dopamine antagonist, your healthcare provider will consider the potential benefits and risks for your particular situation.
