Ropinirole (the active ingredient in Requip XL) passes through breast milk in rats. No research has been done to see if it also passes through breast milk in humans. However, based on the chemical structure of Requip XL, it is likely that this medication would pass through breast milk in humans.
Studies have shown that Requip XL can lower prolactin levels in humans. Because prolactin is a hormone that is important for breastfeeding, Requip XL could affect a woman's ability to breastfeed.
