Parkinsons Disease Home > Mirapex ER Dosage
When beginning treatment, the dosage of Mirapex ER typically starts at 0.375 mg once daily. Depending on your response to the medication, your healthcare provider may gradually increase your dose. Do not crush, chew, cut, or dissolve the tablets, as it will cause the medication to be released too quickly.
An Introduction to Dosing With Mirapex ERThe dose of Mirapex® ER™ (pramipexole ER) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How you respond to Mirapex ER
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Mirapex ER Dosing for Parkinson's DiseaseThe recommended starting Mirapex ER dosage for Parkinson's disease treatment is 0.375 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose gradually, if necessary. The dosage should not be increased more often than once every five to seven days. If you stop taking Mirapex ER for more than a few days, you may have to start back at a lower amount (ask your healthcare provider for more information).
If you are switching from short-acting Mirapex, you can switch directly to the same daily dose. For instance, if you were taking Mirapex 1.5 mg three times daily (a daily total of 4.5 mg), you can switch overnight to Mirapex ER 4.5 mg once daily.
When stopping Mirapex ER, it is usually best to reduce the dose gradually over one week.
People with kidney disease may need to take a lower or less-frequent-than-normal Mirapex ER dosage. In some cases, an every-other-day dosage of Mirapex ER may be recommended.
