As a type an anticholinergic medicine, it works by reestablishing a normal balance of chemicals in the nervous system. This prescription medication comes in tablet form and is typically taken one to four times a day. Common side effects of Akineton include nausea, constipation, and blurred vision.

- Parkinson's disease and similar conditions (when used in combination with other medications)
- Movement or muscle tension disorders (known as extrapyramidal symptoms) caused by antipsychotic medications.
