Comtan Drug Interactions

When monoamine oxidase inhibitors, certain antibiotics, and medications metabolized by COMT are taken with Comtan, drug interactions could occur. These negative interactions may affect the level of entacapone (one of the components of Comtan) in your blood and increase your risk of serious side effects. To help minimize Comtan drug interactions, tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are currently taking.

 

Comtan Drug Interactions: An Overview

Comtan® (entacapone) can potentially interact with several different medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Comtan drug interactions include:
 
  • Certain antibiotics, such as:
 
    • Ampicillin
    • Chloramphenicol
    • Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
    • Rifampicin (Rifadin®)
 
 
    • Apomorphine (Apokyn®)
    • Dobutamine
    • Dopamine
    • Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®, Primatene® Mist)
    • Isoproterenol (Isuprel®)
    • Methyldopa
    • Norepinephrine (Levophed®)
 
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
 
 
  • Probenecid.
