Generic Cogentin

Cogentin (benztropine mesylate) tablets are available in a generic form. In fact, brand-name Cogentin tablets are no longer manufactured, although the injectable form of brand-name Cogentin is still available. Generic Cogentin tablets are made by several companies and are available in three strengths -- benztropine 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg. Injectable Cogentin is not currently available in generic form.

 

Cogentin Generic: An Overview

Cogentin® (benztropine mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat Parkinson's disease and certain side effects of antipsychotic medications (known as extrapyramidal symptoms, or EPS).
 
Cogentin tablets were originally made by Merck & Co., Inc., although Merck has stopped making this drug. Fortunately, Cogentin tablets are still available in generic form. Injectable brand-name Cogentin is also available and is made by Ovation Pharmaceuticals.

Generic Cogentin tablets are available in the following strengths:
 
  • Benztropine 0.5 mg
  • Benztropine 1 mg
  • Benztropine 2 mg.
     
Injectable Cogentin is not currently available in generic form.
