Cogentin and Breastfeeding

Because no studies have been done on Cogentin (benztropine mesylate) and breastfeeding, it is not known if this medication passes through breast milk. Therefore, many healthcare providers will not recommend Cogentin to women who are breastfeeding. If you are taking Cogentin and breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, talk to your healthcare provider about any potential risks.

 

Cogentin and Breastfeeding: An Overview

It is not known if Cogentin® (benztropine mesylate) is safe for use while breastfeeding, as it is not known if the drug passes through breast milk in humans. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Cogentin if you are breastfeeding or plan to start breastfeeding.
 

Can I Take Cogentin While Breastfeeding?

No studies have been done to see if Cogentin passes through breast milk. Because Cogentin can cause severe side effects (such as an intestinal blockage), many healthcare providers are not comfortable recommending this medication for women who are breastfeeding.
