In order to avoid prolonged exposure of a fetus to bromocriptine, it is recommended that a barrier method of birth control (such as condoms) be used by women who start taking bromocriptine, at least until regular menstrual cycles are established. If pregnancy is desired, the contraceptive can be stopped once regular cycles are established.
