Can I Take Artane While Breastfeeding?
Currently, it is not known whether
Artane® (
trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride) is safe for use during breastfeeding, as it is not known whether it passes through breast milk in humans. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Artane if you are breastfeeding or plan to start.
No studies have been conducted on whether Artane passes through breast milk. Because Artane can cause severe side effects (such as an intestinal blockage), many healthcare providers are not comfortable recommending this medication for breastfeeding women. Also, most people who take Artane also take other medications, many of which cannot be used while breastfeeding.
