Generic Akineton

Even though all of the patents have expired, Akineton (biperiden hydrochloride) is not available in generic form. It is possible that manufacturers of generic medications believe that it would not be profitable to make a generic Akineton, as this medication is not in high demand. As a result, a generic version of Akineton may never become available.

 

Generic Akineton: An Overview

Akineton® (biperiden hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat Parkinson's disease and certain side effects of antipsychotic medications (known as extrapyramidal symptoms, or EPS).
 
Akineton is made by Abbott Laboratories and is sold by Par Pharmaceuticals. There are currently no generic versions of Akineton available, even though all of the patents for the medication have expired.
 

When Will Generic Akineton Be Available?

This is a difficult question to answer, as it is likely that a generic version of Akineton may never become available. Because all of the patents for the drug have long since expired, there is nothing preventing any manufacturer from making generic Akineton. However, no manufacturers have chosen to do so, probably because it would not be financially beneficial, as there is a small demand for this medication.
